School of Graduate and Adult Education
at Wingate University

evenings at the convenient Metro Campus in downtown Matthews at 110

Wingate University,
is a four-year private liberal arts university of more than 2,000
students with a personal touch that promotes active learning. Since its
founding by North Carolina Baptists in 1896, Wingate University has
continued to emphasize its core values of Knowledge, Faith and Service.
The academic
experience at Wingate University offers a supportive and intimate
learning environment that challenges students to excel. Classes are
small, with an average of 20 students, and are taught by professors, not
by graduate assistants. Undergraduate students may choose from 40
majors, 35 minors and 6 pre-professional programs in the arts and
sciences, business, education and sport sciences.
Wingate’s School of Pharmacy, located
on the main campus, is one of the most progressive programs in the
country. A new graduate program in Physician Assistant Studies
starts in the fall of 2008 on the main campus.
Wingate University’s
beautiful 390-acre main campus is located off Highway 74 in the town of
Wingate, N.C. about 45 minutes from Charlotte. As one of the few
universities in the state with a four-year residency requirement,
Wingate’s close-knit campus offers the ideal environment for involvement
in student activities.
The international
study/travel program, W’International, enables students to travel
internationally with costs offset by the university. During
university-sponsored ten-day trips, students have traveled to over 30
countries on five continents throughout the world.
Wingate University is
among the most successful schools in the country in the number of
Academic All-Americans and offers 17 NCAA Division II teams. Nearly half
of the students at Wingate University participate in intercollegiate or
intramural sports.
The Thayer School of
Education at Wingate University is accredited by the National Council
for Accreditation of Teacher Education and the North Carolina Dept. of
Public Instruction. The university is also accredited by the Southern
Association of Colleges and Schools.
